Sea of Thieves guilds turn a rotating crew into a fleet: shared ships, a Guild Emissary flag and a Distinction level that everyone levels together. Browse guild and crew recruitment below, or post what you sail — PvP, Hourglass, Tall Tales, chill gold runs — with your platform and region.
A guild holds up to 30 members (raised from 24), and you can be in up to three guilds at once. Members pledge their captained ships to a guild — up to 15 each — and guildmates can sail a pledged ship unless its owner turns sharing off. To found a guild you need to be a Captain with at least one captained ship.
Sailing a Guild Emissary earns Guild Reputation; every 100 levels of it is a Distinction, and Distinctions unlock guild cosmetics and higher emissary grades. That shared progression is why active guilds keep a Discord and schedule sessions: the more members sail under the flag, the faster everyone's Distinction grows.
Most guilds want people who show up and enjoy the same kind of voyage. Say which you are.
Most players join a guild through a crew: sail a few sessions with the same people, then pledge together. A recruitment post that names your preferred ship and playstyle finds a crew faster than a general "looking for guild" — and the crew usually becomes the guild.

You need to be a Captain with at least one captained ship. The ship is pledged to the new guild when you found it; members can pledge their own captained ships later, up to 15 each.

Yes, a ship pledged to the guild can be sailed by guildmates by default. The owner can switch sharing off in the ship's sharing options.
