We Tried Every LFG App So You Don't Have To

GameTree, GamerLink, Gankster, Noobly, Teamplay — we spent a week on each. Here's what actually works when you need a squad tonight.

Here's the thing about finding gaming teammates in 2026: it shouldn't take longer than finding a match itself. The good news is that more teams than ever are working on this problem — and each one brings something different to the table.

We spent a week on each major platform. Made profiles, joined lobbies, sent messages, and compared how each one approaches the path from "I want to play" to "we're in a game." Here's what we found.

The Swipe Apps: GameTree & Noobly

Both take the swipe-to-match approach. You see a profile, you swipe, and if they swipe back, you match — then you chat and eventually play. It's a familiar model, but it does add a few steps before you actually launch a game.

GameTree includes a personality quiz to match you with compatible gamers, which is a fun touch. Noobly supports over 2,500 games and has a collectible badge system with 600+ badges — a nice engagement layer. It's still early in development as a solo-dev project, so expect it to evolve over time.

The Post Boards: GamerLink & Teamplay.gg

GamerLink is one of the most established names in the LFG space — 8,000+ App Store ratings and support for 600+ games. You create a post describing what you're looking for, and other players find it. The post board model is straightforward, though it can be tough for real-time coordination, especially late at night when fewer people are browsing.

Teamplay.gg is a newer entrant that adds scheduled sessions — plan a game for tomorrow at 8pm — plus a Discord bot for finding teammates without leaving your server. It's an interesting angle, currently in beta with around 17 supported games.

The Specialist: Gankster

Gankster takes the opposite approach — going deep instead of wide. They focus on Valorant, LoL, Fortnite, and Rocket League, with rank verification and "non-toxic" badges for duo-finding. If you play one of those four titles, it's a solid, focused experience. The trade-off is that anything outside those games isn't covered.

Where AnySquad Fits In

We're entering the LFG space with our own take: a web-first platform that supports any game.

No app to download — just open anysquad.gg in your browser, find or create a lobby, and you're set. We support any game you want to play, not a curated list of popular titles. Whether it's Valorant or a 15-year-old co-op game with a tiny community — if you're looking for teammates, you can post it here.

We built AnySquad because we felt like the LFG space needed a simple, web-based option with no limits on which games you can play. We're still small, but we're growing — and we think the LFG space is better when there are more options for players to choose from.

Every platform on this list solves the LFG problem in its own way — and they all have things they do really well. We're the newest addition to the space, and we're bringing our own take: a real-time lobby feed, web-first, for any game. We're still small, but we're growing — and we think the LFG space is better when there are more options for players to choose from.
